Welcome to Reception

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our topic for Spring 2 is Space. The children will learn about space travel and different planets. In Literacy we will be reading stories such as Whatever Next, Edward built a rocket ship, Beegu, and Toys in Space.

In Maths, the children will be exploring one more and one less to numbers within 20, as well as halving and doubling numbers.

You will find an overview outlining what we will cover during this half-term here. Spring 1 Curriculum Map

Reception Daily Life

Books and Book bags

Please ensure that your child has a book bag that they bring in to school every day. Your child will have a story book and a reading record that can be changed once a week. Please bring the books by Wednesday, at the latest, so that these can be changed.
Please make sure you write a comment on your child’s reading record before we change it.

Home learning

Children receive a home learning task and a video explaining the activity this will be uploaded on ClassDojo every Friday.
Please ensure your child brings their home learning folder every Thursday.

Children also have four words to practice reading and writing in their blue homework books, please ensure this is brought in on Monday, along with their reading books.

Uniform and spare clothes

Children are expected to wear their uniform including black school shoes. We also ask you to provide a spare set of clothes for your child. If your child has had a toilet accident or becomes wet from playing in the water tray, we will change your child into their spare clothes, please ensure you send another spare set to class on the following day.
Please ensure all items of clothing are named clearly.

Appropriate clothing

As the days are still colder, please ensure your child comes to school in a coat, hat and scarf. Children have continual access to the outside area so make sure they come to school dressed appropriately.
Please ensure your child brings a water bottle every day.

Yours sincerely,

The Reception Team
