Wednesday 08 March 2023

Ark John Archer Primary Academy and the adjoining nursery Ark Start John Archer, a pilot early years programme, have both been awarded a 'Good' rating by Ofsted in their first inspections.

Inspectors commended the school and nursery for providing a safe and nurturing environment where children felt happy and safe. The report highlighted strong leadership, effective teaching, and a well-planned curriculum, which led to good outcomes and personal development for children.

Teachers were praised for using effective strategies to engage and challenge, especially in reading and communication skills.

In addition, the reports highlighted strong relationships with parents, which helped create a supportive and inclusive ethos.

Ark Start Headteacher Molly Devlin said: "We couldn't be happier with Ofsted's report and are pleased for our colleagues at Ark John Archer who we work closely with.

"We opened in 2020 against a pandemic backdrop that has seen many families face challenges. We ensured that our nurseries remained a hub where our youngest learners had a safe place to play and develop. Our work ensures we prepare children to start primary school happily and confidently. We work with families by supporting parenting programmes, working with local initiatives, and hosting sessions for families to get together. This whole community approach is something we're extremely proud of."

Ark John Archer Primary Head of School Glenn Prior said: "We're overjoyed to receive this good rating from Ofsted, which is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff, pupils and families. At Ark John Archer, we are committed to providing a high-quality education for every child. We also congratulate the Ark Start team as their work ensures children joining our school are ready for the next step in their learning journey."

The inspections took place on 19, 24 and 25 January 2023.
