Art, design and technology
Art is a dedicated part of the Ark John Archer Primary Curriculum. Starting in KS1, we build up motor skills with the use of brushes, watercolour, acrylic and charcoal. We explore topics in History, Science and Literacy through Art. In line with the National Curriculum we learn about different artists and craftsmen and artists' movements such as pointillism and impressionism. Trips to art galleries and museums supplement our knowledge of art history and contemporary art.
In design and technology we learn about the transition from drawing to construction, the suitability of materials and function of a product. Problem solving is a core part of this subject and the skills needed to create a functional object. The skills of maths, literacy and science are also applied to design and technology so the application of core subjects can be put into practice.
